Description
Long Oil resins are saturated polyester resins, modified with fatty acids, which have high flexibility and low viscosity. The word alkidase is composed of two words “al” meaning alcohol and “kid” meaning acid.
Characteristics of alkyd resins:
- It is in liquid form.
- Very sticky on different surfaces of alkyd paints
- Highly resistant to corrosive environments
- Resistant against low sulfuric acid vapors
- It is soluble in aliphatic solvents and dissolves in aromatic solvents to a small extent.
- Its drying speed is lower.
• The adhesion of alkyd resins is caused by their polarity.
